Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship
“At the Institute for Compassionate Leadership, we engaged in exercises about how to speak and behave authentically in each and every interaction…As I started to put this theory into practice, I noticed that a few things happened right away: I started to ask for what I wanted and doors I couldn’t have imagined opened.” - Jamie Zimmerman, M.D.
All of us at the Institute for Compassionate Leadership are heart-broken as a result of the tragic death of one of our own, Jamie Zimmerman. On October 12th, 2015 Jamie suffered an accident while on vacation in Hawaii and drowned. Jamie was the best of us: kind, generous, and a pioneer in making the world a better place. She helped many people in her 31 years with us, and would have changed the world in even bigger ways if given just a little more time. Shortly after graduating from the first cohort at ICL Jamie wrote a beautiful article for elephant journal about her experience with us. To read that article click here.
Jamie will not be forgotten. In the coming months I imagine we will have many ways to celebrate her. Today, with the blessings of Jamie's mother Jordan, I would like to announce our own: the Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship at the Institute for Compassionate Leadership.
Every dollar offered to the scholarship fund will go to supporting future participants at our program; people like Jamie who so desperately want to help others. Through providing scholarships we hope to be able to make the transformative program that Jamie experienced available to many people for many years.
As Jamie said, “At the Institute…I started to meet more young people who were committed to following their passion, living their purpose, and doing work they love. These people became my community, my tribe.” Please join us in expanding our tribe through this scholarship fund, so we can help nurture more amazing beings like Jamie.
We would also like to recommend that you make a donation to the beach where Jamie passed away. Her death was simply senseless and it is the hope of many of us that through making a direct donation in her name they will hire a lifeguard to prevent future tragedies like this one. Jamie will be remembered for generations to come. Thank you for your support.
